The name “dachshund” is of German origin and literally means “badger dog,” from Dachs “badger” and Hund “dog”. First bred in the early 1600’s in Germany, the breed became popular in the U.S. during the early 1900’s. They are loveable, playful companions, and an ideal pet for many homes!
